    Taking cooperation with North Rhine Westphalia further, Consul General Dr. Amit Telang called on Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart, Minister for Economy, Innovation, Digitization and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia on 11 September 2020. Consul General Dr. Telang thanked Minister Pinkwart for his continuing support in further strengthening India’s partnership with the state of NRW. Wipro’s recent announcement to open a new Digital Innovation Hub at Düsseldorf was welcomed.

    During the day, Consul General Dr. Amit Telang also met Ms. Annette Klerks, Head of Department – Office of Economic Development, City of Düsseldorf and Ms. Bettina Löhr, Senior Project Manager. Avenues for furthering India`s cooperation with the city of Dusseldorf were discussed. Düsseldorf is one of the most important location for direct foreign investment in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and one of the leading locations for Indian companies in Germany.

    Consul General later met Mr. Felix Neugart, Managing Director, International Department and Ms. Katrin Lange, Head of India Desk, IHK Düsseldorf. IHK Düsseldorf’s role as one of the active partners of the ‘India meets NRW’ initiative of the Consulate was recognized and appreciated. Avenues for furthering the ‘India Meets NRW’ series of programs were discussed. The Chamber of Commerce Düsseldorf has around 86,000 member companies from various sectors.

    In furtherance of engagements with NRW, Consul General Dr. Amit Telang visited NRW.INVEST GmbH and held discussions with Ms. Astrid Becker, General Manager Asia, Australia, South America and Ms. Stephanie Beeres, Head of Business Unit India. The economic development agency NRW.INVEST has been an active partner in promoting Indo-German business collaboration in the region. Various topics like collaboration in Renewable Energy sector and Innovative Digital Technologies were discussed.

    The federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia accounts for the largest share of Indo-German trade volume. Among other sectors the dynamic Indian IT industry has found a significant position in the North Rhine-Westphalian economy.
